Founded in 2023, Eastern Cape Medics Unity Foundation (EC MEDICS) emerged from a shared vision among medical professionals to address the healthcare disparities prevalent in the Eastern Cape. Recognizing the pressing need for coordinated action, EC MEDICS brings together doctors, specialists, and healthcare advocates to create impactful, community-driven health programs.

Our Team

Dr Mfanelo Titus

Dr Mfanelo Zamulwazi Michael Titus is a General Practitioner with over 20 years of experience serving communities in the Eastern Cape. He holds a BSc from the University of Fort Hare and an MBChB from the Medical University of Southern Africa (now Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University). Based in Sterkspruit and Aliwal North, he is passionate about providing primary care, emergency medicine, maternal health, and chronic disease management. He is passionate about improving healthcare access in under-resourced areas and has supported numerous community initiatives, including HIV/AIDS outreach and public health campaigns.

Dr P.N. Mbandazayo

Dr Petronette (Peri) Mbandazayo is an Oncology Generalist with over 20 years of public sector clinical experience. Born and raised in the Eastern Cape, she graduated MBChB from UCT in 1998 and later trained in the UK and Ireland before specialising in Radiation Oncology at Frere Hospital. Passionate about strengthening primary healthcare, she champions cancer prevention and early detection. As Founder and General Secretary of EC Medics, she leads impactful humanitarian initiatives, including award-winning rural cataract surgery projects. She serves as an AMS Trustee and is an active member of SAMATU.

Dr Gcobani Tuswa

Dr Gcobani Tuswa is an Ophthalmologist trained at UNITRA (now WSU) and the University of the Free State, where he completed his Fellowship (CMSA) and MMed. His career was shaped at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, igniting a lifelong passion for community ophthalmology. Now based in Komani, he focuses on high-volume cataract surgery while actively serving underserved communities through NGO outreach initiatives across South Africa.

Dr Tandimfundo Pupuma

Dr Tandimfundo Luck Cameron Pupuma obtained his MBChB from Walter Sisulu University in 2006 and has served extensively within the Eastern Cape public health sector. Beginning his career as a Medical Intern in East London, he went on to serve as a Community Doctor at Tafalofefe Hospital and later as a Medical Officer and CEO at Komga Hospital. Since 2017, he has practiced as a General Practitioner, bringing broad clinical expertise across Internal Medicine, O&G, Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Anaesthesia. A former provincial and Border Rugby player, he brings strong leadership, discipline, and teamwork to both medicine and community service.

Dr Noxolo Ngacu

Dr Noxolo Ngacu is a dedicated medical doctor currently serving at Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the Medical University of South Africa and an MBChB from the University of Limpopo. Her career spans internship training at Garankuwa Hospital, community service and medical practice at Edenvale Hospital, and time in private practice as a General Practitioner in the Eastern Cape. With extensive public healthcare experience, she remains committed to serving communities and strengthening healthcare delivery in the province.

Second Deputy Chairperson

Dr Sisanda Siqithi is a Paediatrician based in the Eastern Cape with a deep commitment to serving rural communities. Having grown up in a rural area herself, she is passionate about improving child healthcare access and mentoring young doctors from similar backgrounds. She has a special interest in Paediatric Rheumatology and is driven to develop essential services in the province and expand expertise for children living with rheumatic diseases, while empowering and inspiring the next generation of rural paediatricians.
