The Cataract ECDOH Project
The second phase of the 400 Eastern Cape marathon Cataract Surgery Blitz continued at Madzikane Ka Zulu Hospital in KwaBhaca- Alfred Nzo District today.
200 more patients will get second lease of eyesight, thank you to the partnership between the department and its partners namely South African National Council for the Blind, EC Medics Unity Foundation, African Eye Institute, SAMRC and SA Red Cross Air Mercy Services.
397 eyes
A partnership among the Eastern Cape Department of Health, SA Council for the Blind, EC Medics Unity Foundation, African Eye Institute, the South African Medical Research Council, the SA Red Cross Air Mercy Services, and the North End Foundation, has seen 397 patients get free eyesight-restoring cataract surgeries.
The life-changing surgery was conducted, mostly on senior citizens, over two weeks in various hospitals across the Eastern Cape.
Eye Care Outreach Project
EC Medics raises funds and partners with eye care professionals to provide vision testing for disadvantaged children. Hosted annually around World Sight Awareness Day, this initiative helps identify vision problems early and connect children with the care they need to thrive in school and daily life.
