ELIMINATION OF CERVICAL CANCER IN SOUTH AFRICA

This National Strategic and Implementation Framework for Cervical Cancer Elimination defines South Africa’s pathway to achieving elimination as a public health problem by 2030. Itis aligned with the World Health Organization’s Global Strategy, which sets bold but achievable 2030 targets: 90% of girls fully vaccinated against HPV by age 15 years; 70% of women screened with a high- performancetestbyage 25 and again by age 55; and 90% of people diagnosed with precancer be treated early and 90% of women with invasive cancer to receive appropriate and comprehensive treatment. Anchored in a lifecourse approach, the framework recognises that prevention and care must begin early through community education and awareness, and continue throughout a woman’s life to ensure continuity, improveoutcomes, andadvance healthequity.
